The Centennial College’s Bachelor of Professional Accounting (Hons) program (BPAcc) has been accredited by 6 renowned international professional accountancy bodies, including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in the UK.  ACCA is the largest professional accountancy body in the world with more than 188,000 fully qualified members and 480,000 students in 168 countries worldwide.

Similar to the over 2,000 accounting degree graduates generated by more than 20 local and overseas universities and colleges in Hong Kong in every year, most of our BPAcc graduates are eager to work for the “Big Four” accounting firms (i.e. Deloitte, EY, KPMG & PWC) as their first full-time employment.  In order to help our BPAcc students and graduates-to-be preparing for applying the “Big 4”, we used to invite partners of two to three of the Big 4 accounting firms as guest speakers of our monthly professional accounting seminars in each academic year.

On Wednesday 8 February 2017, our College had the great honor to have Ms Kammi Choi, Learning & Development Manager, ACCA HK, and Ms Natalie Chan, Committee member of the ACCA, HK and Co-chairperson of the Professional Development Sub-Committee of ACCA, HK; as the guest speakers for our monthly professional accounting seminar titled “Define your future – Go Far, Go Fast with ACCA!

Natalie is the audit partner of Financial Services Industry group of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Hong Kong. She has more than 20 years’ experience in providing audit and advisory services to financial institutions in Hong Kong and China, of which she spent 4 years stationing in China serving the financial sector clients.

Her clients include global banks, financial institutions listed in Hong Kong and the Mainland China stock exchanges, securities and asset management companies and funds. She has extensive experience in running global bank audits and performing regional coordination work. She has extensive experience in providing regulatory advisory services including licensing application service to both local and overseas institutions. She also specializes in various compliance reviews to address regulatory findings and remediation action to resolve such findings.

Natalie shared with our students her career developments with Deloitte HK over the last 2 decades since graduation from the HKU as an accounting major.  Other than brushing up with soft and interpersonal skills, Natalie advised our students that willingness to accept extra duties and challenges is another key success factor, such as her 4 years of relocation to Deloitte Guangzhou office and working on different IPO auditing assignments around China.

Then, Ms Kammi Choi vividly introduced ACCA as from its international background, student registration, professional examinations to career prospects.  She also encouraged our students undertaking the ACCA Conditional Examination Scheme, so that accounting major students could expedite completion of all ACCA examinations soon after or even graduation, and thereafter be more focus on their full-time employment, especially in their auditing career with the Big 4.

Awarding Certificate to Ms. Natalie Chan and Ms. Kammi Choi from Prof. Joseph Yau and Mr. Edward Chiu
