Biography
Dr Angus Lam is an Associate Professor at Centennial College, where he is also the Coordinator of the Major "Gender, Media and Culture". He possesses substantial experience in teaching and curriculum development at the tertiary level, having worked on syllabus design in The Chinese University of Hong Kong and taught at HKU SPACE.
Dr Lam's main research interests lie in masculinity studies, popular culture and creative industries; fields in which he has authored various academic papers, newspaper and journal articles. Dr Lam is the recipient of many awards and honours, including a TVB Scholarship and a Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation Scholarship. In addition, in recognition of his scholastic abilities, he was granted the Best Dissertation Award by Hong Kong Baptist University in 2000. Later, as a teacher in HKU SPACE, he received their Outstanding Teacher Award in the year 2008.
Prior to commencing his career in academia, Dr Lam gained extensive experience in the mass media as an Editor for Icicle Production Company, as a Senior Researcher for Phoenix Satellite Television and as a film critic for City Entertainment Magazine. This background enables him to establish and strengthen links between the media and academia, and also helps him expand his students’ knowledge base by exposing them to the realities as well as the many different career options in the private sector.
